NOVEMBER CHALLENGE

Thirty days. One short story per day.

December 27th, 2010

Ouch, too late! All the thirty short stories from the November 2010 Challenge have been removed from the site and the blog.

You missed: a quiver of graves; a leopard stalking through post-Apartheid Africa; a journey through the bodies of Time and Space; the history and future of Big Dog; the reason why the robots that killed the human race didn't kill Amelia; the noise made by the sawing of an angel's wings; the diatribe of a ticking bomb, from its own perspective; the legend behind the Cave of Wonders and the very first djinni of the lamp; why the Duke commissioned a sword with a glass handle; what love and loss does to a man in Mayan America; why secret agents aren't all glam; what the word for wizard is; how sweet sang the voice of the Firebird, imprisoned; the story of the Matryoshka Man; a very curious account of an encounter in steampunk England; and a lot more besides.

Fear not, some stories may reappear on the website, and some lucky few may be sent .pdf copies by request to the site e-mail address. The prelude to 'Half Discovered Wings' may well end up as a permanent addition to the site.

Maybe there'll be another challenge next year?

God, I hope not. Happy holidays!

November 30th, 2010

30 days, 30 short stories - I did it!  November has been a month of trials, not least massive snowstorms today and yesterday that have cut shorter my usually short window of time between getting home from work and going to bed.

A minimum of a thousand words a day, each story different, has been a real challenge.  Yet somehow I've managed to accomplish what I thought I never would, and achieved my own wild goal.

I really would love to hear your thoughts on any of the stories either on the blog, or via the website's forum.  I've been creative and want your creative input.

Enjoy, and thanks for all your support this long, long month - without your interest and encouragement I would have given up weeks ago.  Thankyou for helping me keep my promise, and best wishes to you all in this chilly season.

November 1st, 2010

There's a special kind of stupid reserved for people like me. I'm sure there's a word for it. Or many, even. But I'm far too stupid to wonder about what they might be, and I'm busy thinking about other stupid things.

Silly things. Ideas. Like, "I know. I'll write a story a day, no less than 1,000 words, for thirty days straight."

Thirty short stories in thirty days.

*clap. clap. clap*

Here they are. The links down the side of the page will take you to each story as the site is updated daily with a new piece of fiction. The stories may be terrible. They may be full of errors and typos and nonsensical things. They may not appear until 23:59.

But they will be here.

One short story a day, for thirty days, beginning 1st November 2010.

The stories will be available to read until 30th December 2010. Some may remain on the site, others will likely be consigned to the Big Digital Shitheap in the Sky, where all the broken stories go after they are deleted.

Wish me luck!
